Below are summaries and photos from our meetings & events.
Harrison Choice Kick-off Community Meetings
We hosted several meetings in April & May 2024 to introduce the choice neighborhood project to the PHA residents. The meetings allowed residents to ask questions and complete their Need Based Assessment Survey. The survey will help us understand residents’ priorities, needs, strengths, and challenges. The information collected by the survey and from talking with residents will allow us to develop the strategies for our plan.
United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) site visit
We had a visit from HUD in May 2024. This was an opportunity for HUD to learn about the choice target community and the people that reside there. HUD officials learned about the concerns & needs of the PHA residents, toured community assets, and met some of the partners working with us to create the Harrison Choice plan.
Choice Neighborhood Bus Tour (North Central)
In order for residents to get a better understanding of the Choice Neighborhood Program, we took Harrison residents on a tour of the North Central choice neighborhood. Residents were able to see and learn how Choice funds were used to make improvements to the neighborhood. Improvements include the renovation of the 8th & Diamond Playground and the community inspired murals under the SEPTA Regional Rail underpasses. Harrison residents also toured the different types of replacement housing in North Central that could be part of the plan for Harrison.
Harrison Community Meeting
In early October, we hosted a community meeting for residents to hear updates on the choice neighborhood planning process. Staff were there to address all questions & concerns. Residents also learned the results of the Needs Based Assessment.
Public Safety Roundtable Conversation
In Mid-October, we hosted a meeting on public safety. Public safety is a top concern we heard from the survey, so we invited several partners to talk about their initiatives: PHA Police Department, Philadelphia Police Department, Temple University Police Department, and the Philadelphia Streets Department.
